The Chief Negotiator of the Republic of Kosovo with the European Union, Jeton Zulfaj, participated in the Strategic Dialogue on Enlargement, which brought together institutional representatives, experts, and scholars from across Europe today to discuss the future of EU enlargement and the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

In his remarks, Chief Negotiator Zulfaj outlined Kosovo’s achievements in the European integration process, highlighting progress in democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental freedoms. Kosovo is simultaneously continuing to implement reforms stemming from the EU Growth Plan.

The Chief Negotiator emphasized that 10 of the 11 draft laws that failed to pass by the June deadline due to a parliamentary blockade have now been re-approved by the Government and will be forwarded to the Assembly for adoption. Among other measures, the Government approved the draft law on preventing money laundering and combating terrorist financing—a key prerequisite for Kosovo’s preparations to join SEPA.

For Kosovo, obtaining candidate country status and opening accession negotiations remain top priorities.

Mr. Zulfaj thanked the Austrian-French Centre for Rapprochement in Europe, Ifri, the Open Society Foundations, and the Kosovo Foundation for Civil Society for organizing the event.
