Latest developments in Kosovo, progress achieved with European agenda for the beginning of SAA negotiations and the process for visa liberalization were discussed during the meeting. As well, positive assessment from European Commission on the progress of the whole Western Balkans on the path towards integration process in the European Union was discussed.
Minister Çitaku, informed Ambassador Kickert, in details, on the preparations of the Kosovo Government for the beginning of negotiations for Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA). Also, current challenges of Republic of Kosovo prior to the next election; integration and improved participation of all communities in elections as one of the priorities of the Government referring to European integration and visa liberalization process, was discussed.
On this occasion, Minister Çitaku stated that: “The purpose of European Commission to open the negotiations for the SAA, this month, and to complete them in the spring of next year it`s reconfirmed. Also, iIt is highly appreciated our commitment in the context of visa liberalization dialogue. However, we are aware, more than ever, that our work it is not completed yet, our country, our institutions, Government, Assembly and judiciary institutions should give their utmost commitment. ”
In addition, Minister Çitaku, thanked the Ambassador Kickert for its continuous support Austria provided for Kosovo, towards European integration process and assured him on Kosovo government’s commitment on fulfilling all the necessary reforms to advance in key processes.
Ambassador Kickert praised the excellent political-economical relations between our two countries and expressed the willingness to further development, at all levels and areas, with special focus on economical cooperation. In relation to recent developments in the country, Mr. Kickert, stated: “Kosovo is acting fair by being committed to improve their relations with Serbia. Kosovo’s constructive approach serves as a good example for the entire region, since the past barriers have to be overcome in order to move towards a more prosperous future. “
At the very end, Ambassador Kickert, emphasized that Austria will continue to support Kosovo, its commitment in fulfilling planned reforms.
